...when I found my flash drive at the bottom of the washing machine today.
All of my work crap and some of my writing crap is on there, over a year's worth of stuff that I haven't backed up anywhere. I almost threw up thinking about how much stuff I had lost.

Nothing takes me out of a song faster than the words "plastic dashboard Jesus."
So I did a Google search, wondering who in the heck had written such a song.
Bon Jovi! WTF? What is this world coming to?
(Though my favorite hit on the search was the Yahoo Answers link, where someone asked what a plastic dashboard Jesus was in the first place. It does seem like a very strange religious item. A plastic Jesus that you stick on your dashboard? Why? And I wonder what Jesus would think about that...)

I can't believe I finished this! I had to write 10K yesterday to meet my goal of 40K because I have been a very bad slacker. I'm not sure I like what I wrote but I'm done and I'm putting it away for at least, I don't know, ten years or so. Maybe it'll look better by then. :)
This Fast Draft thing was a good exercise for me. I've been very unmotivated. Actually I was pretty unmotivated the entire month of April but I did what I said I'd do. I wrote 40,000 on an idea I've had kicking around for a while. Now I can move on with my life. It's so weird how different this was for me. I mean, the challenge wasn't unlike Nano, I knew other people who were working on it, but I went days without writing and then I'd write 5 or 6K in one sitting. I'm much more disciplined with Nano.

Today I was trained on QuestionPoint, a 24/7 online reference product we offer to our patrons. In those two hours, I helped answer several meaningful questions. I was also asked, but chose not to answer, the following:

So do I. I've never heard of them. I assume the person meant spartan, but I still don't know about the hoplites.

with Red Dwarf. It's this completely high-larious SF/comedy show that started in the 80's.
One of the guys here recommended it to me and I've been laughing my ass off ever since. My cat thinks I'm crazy, cackling like mad the way I do, but then MJ never really got British humor. The whole show is just so odd that it completely appeals to my eccentric sense of humor. I love the characters, especially Rimmer and Lister and the way they interact with each other. And I adore Holly. ("Emergency. Emergency. There's an emergency going on. It's still going on.") Oh, and I love the addition of the word "smeg" to my vocabulary. It works on so many levels: Smeg off. Smeg for brains. Smeghead. :)

I've decided to work on National Novel Finishing Month with my Tucson NaNo friends, even though I'm far away from them. *sniffs* (Bloody hell! Why can't I move on with my life instead of pining after the craziness that was the writing group in Tucson?)
At any rate, the plan is to finish my first edit (the last four chapters) of my '05 NaNo, still untitled, and then complete an entire second edit. And find a title.
